I read similar article also named Recording Sarges - Current M.O., and it was completely different. Personally, I agree with you more, because this article makes a little bit more sense for me

Check out Jared Diamond's other book - called something like Why Sex Is Fun... I just bought it... Haven't read it yet. I did read Guns, Germs... and it does not answer the question you posed. But it's an interesting book regardless.

To sum up Guns for you - "development" is a product of food production (farmable grains and domesticable animals) which frees up classes of people to specialize. This along with other natural resources (like metal ore) and geographical ease of travel (to assist in communication between cultures - e.g., the east-west axis of Eurasia) explains why certain cultures were more "advanced" technologically than others.

However, I've spent time in so-called undeveloped, so-called simple cultures - and they are advanced in terms of things like enjoying life and appreciating shit...

'Using Your Brain For A Change' by Richard Bandler is full of NLP exercises to take control of your state. I recommend it strongly.

Hi Sorin,

Thanks. In my experience, you have to talk to the person to be sure of their level of intelligence. That is the most sure way. When I am meeting her, one of my built in qualifications is to engage her on a series of topics about the world, about people, about thinking - to see if she can keep up.

And remember there are many types of intelligence. I know people with great creative and/or social intelligence who are not good at maths or critical thinking or evaluating evidence.

One can make suppositions about another person's intelligence or their other qualities as people, these can be useful at times but you have to built them into 'Probability Theory', which I have written about before. By doing so, you can use your useful intuitions to gain leverage because you have hit on something to give you leverage and thus influence and at the same time, if you are wrong, you limit the possible damage by playing your cards carefully, building in 'get out clauses', if your intuitions do not hit home.
